Four Day Beard on “Is This Thing On?” Podcast Today

If you like independent music podcasts, and I know you do, Check out “Is this thing on?”,  Nick Tann’s independent music podcast. It’s a great podcast out of Southampton on the south coast of the UK.

cover170x170On a completely unrelated note (ok somewhat totally related), Nick featured one of our songs on his podcast today. Among a bunch of other good independent music, Nick included “Feels Like I Might Disintegrate”. from our debut self titled album that will be available on iTunes, Spotify et al. on April 15 to help ease your tax day woes.

Maybe its just that everything sounds better with a British accent, but Nick gave us a pretty great compliment saying that the song “Sounds like Beck… like something off odelay,” and  “I fucking love that about it”. Thanks Nick and keep up the great podcasting.

Eight Line Poem (David Bowie Cover)

Bowie circa 1971

With nearly a month since David Bowie passed, I am still reflecting on the loss of a musical hero. Hunky Dory is my favorite of all of Bowie’s albums.

After I don’t even know how many years of listening to it, I never really paid much attention to the lyrics until now. Such a beautiful song.

I decided to record a cover of “Eight Line Poem”:

The tactful cactus by your window
Surveys the prairie of your room
The mobile spins to its collision
Clara puts her head between her paws
They’ve opened shops down West side
Will all the cacti find a home
But the key to the city
Is in the sun that pins
the branches to the sky

Divide and Conquer

Toward the end of last year, I got an email from a contributor to Divide and Conquer, an Indie Music Review website, who had been checking out Four Day Beard on bandcamp. inviting me to submit our music for review. Needless to say I was flattered and Submitted the songs for review.

I was impressed with the music featured on The Even Ground website. Their focus is promoting only music they actually like and targeting die hard music fans. I love this approach. As a music fan, the mainstream hype of the same 50 bands gets tiresome and I think most music lovers are really craving new, honest, hard working, authentic artists.

Matt Jensen from The Even Ground wrote a pretty flattering and encouraging review with comparisons to Wolf Parade, Sparklehorse, The Flaming Lips and Broken Social Scene. These comparisons are definitely a compliment. Check out the full review here.
